Photoshop Delete Background Tutorial
2011

What am I doing wrong with the pen tool in photoshop?
I need to cut out an image for a project I'm doing, and I know the very basics of the pen tool from watching tutorials but I haven't found anything that deals with the problem I have now. I'm able to cut out my image and delete the background, but the background turns white. then I cut out the sections like between the person's arms, etc. by clicking make selection-->new selection. But I couldn't get the last black and white "ant" line to go away after my last selection no matter what, and I couldn't get the cut out to copy after that either. I hit copy but it says it can't because I haven't selected anything. The ant line is still there, btw. I was finally able to get it to copy somehow after awhile but it ended up copying the cut out with the white background, not just the cut out so apparently I messed that up too. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
If the layer is the background layer, it will always default to the background color (normally white). If you want it to not do that, double click on the background layer and it will bring up a box, usually saying Layer 0. click OK. Now, if when you set up the document, you set up the background as transparent, it should be fine when you delete the stuff now.
You might not be able to copy because you don't have the correct layer selected.
Just some possibilities, it might not be exact. Hope this helps!
