Photoshop pros: What is the purpose of creating layers and masks?
To all the photoshop pro's out there, why do we need to create layers and masks to accomplish certain tasks? Why can't we just perform manipulations on one single layer? What's the easiest way for me to understand what they are for and how to use them? I would appreciate any insights or tutorials anyone can provide. I've been doing a lot of reading on photoshop lately, I've got a few good images I want to play with, but this layer and mask thing is just driving me bonkers.
Anyone care to lend a machete to my intellectual thicket?
I never use layers or rarely and can accomplish 99% of the work. SOme use layers becasue, if they make a mistake, they don't have to restart everything.
