how can i make a custom madden nfl 09 ps2 cover i have photoshop 7.0 but idk how to use it?

First, goto new, then pick the size of the canvas (image) you want. Then use the tools on the left to use text and change colors. It's very complicated how to explain how to do it typing it out.
