Help with the Photoshop Pen Tool? (CS3)?

How do you adjust the stroke/thickness of the pen tool in Photoshop CS3, specifically? When I make a line with the pen tool, Photoshop won't allow me to use Edit>Stroke etc. Is there any other way, or am I doing something wrong? I don't have a tablet, but I want to use the pen tool to create smooth lineart for my pictures.

in Photoshop the pen tool only works to create paths, it doesn't have strokes like in Illustrator because it isn't meant to be a drawing tool in photoshop- its used to create paths or selections
