For decades, I used a Nikon FG, that was a mid-level camera. Took great pictures if you ever knew what you was doing, but of course ıt had been a film camera. Then came old digital cameras. For the last a decade, I was basically applying point and shoot dslr cameras, which were great regarding general landscapes. No longer being considering standing in darkrooms inhaling and exhaling photo processing chemicals, I opted for an electronic SLR where I could do any further processing via my pc. As a birthday item to myself, I got the Nikon D3100 Digital SLR. Took it out the first few days and achieved a lot less than thrilling results; my point & shoots gave me better pictures. So I took a glance at the manual which served only marginally. I do not think it was orginally written in English and could have lost some while in the translation.
Common sense explained that Nikon couldn't have create a $500+ camera of which only takes so-so images. I looked on Amazon and found 3 books written especially for this camera, and i aquired one. Nikon D3100 electronic Field Guide. Going over just the initial few chapters of this book made a huge difference. I'm now having incredible images. My problem was in which photography had progressed immensely while we were playing around with this point & shoots. This camera takes good thing about these new advances, plus it seems like it's made a few advances of a. What doesn't complement the camera is the USB cable, which i'm sure stinks. Fortunately I had one from an old Palm Pilot that proved helpful. The camera, by the way in which, does include 2 ferrite cores. i'd to research what those people were; they wrap around near one end in the USB cable to avert interference when uploading a person's pictures. Considering using it because without it POST kept getting uploading problems.
I didn't plan at writing this much, but really there's much to say relating to this Nikon D3100. Bottom line is the fact I really like the item.
